Interesting Japanese Watch Commercials

To all of my wonderful visitors, I wish you a very Happy New Year 2010. May the new decade bring you health and all that you wish for!

By the way, Recently, when I was wasting my time looking for inspiration for my assignment with youtube, my eyes were caught by some commercials. The company’s name was Jewelry and Watch Nagano (宝石時計長野). There are 4 series with different messages and different backgrounds depending on which season they are broadcasted. Perhaps it’s much better to give you their translations only rather than to interpret and to explain their meaning with my boring reasoning  🙂

1. 時間の関係 (Time Relation) : Spring (March~June)

人生で一時間だけ関係した人。	In your entire lifetime, people who relate with you in only 1 hour:
タクシードライバー、講演会の講師。	Taxi Drivers, Guest Speakers in Open Lectures
1年間だけ関係した人。	People who relate only in one year:
インストラクター、病院の先生。	Instructors, Doctors in Hospitals
5年間だけ関係した人。	People who relate only in five years:
別れてしまった恋人、前の会社の同僚。	Broke up dearest love, colleagues in previous company
10年以上、関係する人は、	People who relate more than 10 years:,

2. Happy Birth Time : Summer (July, August)

ひとりがすると1ヶ月かかることを、	Things finished in one month by one man
30人でやれば1日で終わる。	would be finished in one day by thirty men

4.  時の商人 (Time Trader) : Winter (Desember~February)

その商人は時を売っていた。	The trader selled time
「いらっしゃいませ。時はいかがでしょうか？1分から承ります」	“Hello, may I help you. I’d offer you time. I can give you from 1 minute”
ある男は商人から1時間買った。	There was a man, and he bought an hour.
1時間買った男は、	The man who bought an hour,
それを読書の時間に使った。	he used it to read books.
ある女は1週間買った。	There was a woman, and she bought a week.
1週間買った女は、	The woman who bought a week,
それを海外旅行に使った。	she used it for traveling.
「10年欲しいのだがね」	“I want ten years”,
ある老人は商人に聞いた。	said an old man to the trader
「お客様、10年だと、すこし値がはりますが」	“Sir, but it’d take a higher price.”
「かまわん。10年ぶんよこせ」	“It’s fine. Give me ten years right now.”
10年買った老人は、	The old man who bought ten years,
それを病気の妻に譲った。	he yielded it to his sick wife.
